The Georgian Theatre

About the Venue

We’re a 100% fully independent music venue; promoting a great live music programme all year round – set within our beautifully restored building – dating back to 1766.

We offer a great place to experience live music in one of the most intimate venues in the UK – we’ve hosted some great musicians here including Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The Wonder Stuff and many, many more…

Our roots are in locally produced music – and we’ve showcased some of our area’s finest artists including Kingsley Chapman, Cattle & Cane and Cape Cub.

Our venue is set up to host amazing performances or to celebrate your special occasion; our bar and kitchen can provide you with a range of beers, ales, gins and cocktails – alongside a well-constructed food offer, ranging from a simple buffet to something more special.

N.B. prices quoted in our hire pack assume that your event is largely an all standing one - or with minimal seating.  Events involving special seating configurations or low numbers of attendees may incur additional charges.

Our History

Built in 1766 as a stopping point on a circuit of northern theatres The Georgian Theatre experienced a chequered history for much of its first 200 years or so – flipping from vibrant theatre to becoming a home for the local Salvation Army; falling into disuse before finding a new purpose as a sweet factory – final dereliction and threatened demolition in the 1960’s / 1970’s…

Saved from the bulldozers; the theatre took on a modest new life in 1980 as a community venue – although with very little creative activity within its walls; the building stood as no more than a community space for hire.

In 1993, the fledgling Stockton Music & Arts Collective (renamed Tees Music Alliance in 2006) was offered the chance to make the theatre its home…

Almost 25 years, many hundreds of performances and a major refurbishment later; we now have the venue brought into the 21st century – with an increase in capacity, comfort and operating hours – offering Stockton Borough, Teesside and the north east of England an amazing facility to nurture live music.
