After spending the last 12 months having some well deserved time away from the band, much-loved local siblings Cattle & Cane, aka Joe and Helen Hammill, are back with LOTS of new music and newly announced live shows in 2023.
Perhaps best known locally for their Teesside folk-anthem 'Infant Hercules', the band have achieved over 25 million Spotify streams and global success via TV shows such as Sunday Brunch, Made In Chelsea, Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing, MTV's Catfish, The Only Way Is Essex, Conversations with Friends, Avenida Brasil, Rendez-Vous En Terre Inconnue and Untraditional 2.
The Hammills have earned a glowing reputation for their magical live shows after sharing stages with the likes of Tom Odell, Brian Wilson, Stereophonics, The Head And The Heart, Lewis Capaldi, Jake Isaac, Half Moon Run and Nerina Pallot.
Helen and Joe have also appeared at acclaimed international tastemaker events Canadian Music Week and Reeperbahn Festival, as well as at some of the UK’s finest boutique and inner-city showcases like Cambridge Folk Festival, Black Deer, Tramlines, Live At Leeds, Liverpool Sound City and Deer Shed, as well as headlining Teesside festivals Twisterella and Stockton Calling.
Sold-out signs are commonplace at their own headline gigs, including statement shows in their native North East at Sage Gateshead and Middlesbrough Town Hall, where a crowd of over 1,200 saw them perform alongside the Northern Orchestra.
With three self-released albums, as well as a mini album of covers, Joe and Helen have cultivated a successful cottage industry with a passionate core fanbase.
They’ve received airplay from such luminaries as Dermot O’Leary on BBC Radio 2, Elton John (Rocket Hour), Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio, Gary Crowley on BBC London and John Kennedy on Radio X, as well as BBC Introducing who invited the band to play on their stage at Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park.
